On March 2, 2023 the Chilean statesman, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Riccardo Lagos Escobar is marking his 85th anniversary.
Riccardo Lagos Escobar was born in Santiago (Chile) in 1938. In 1960 he graduated fr om the Legal Department of the University of Chile. He studied in Duke University in 1960-1962 wh ere he obtained PhD in economics. Since 1963 he has been actively involved in teaching activity at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and University of Chile. In 1967-1968 he was the Director of the School of Political and Administrative Sciences, in 1971-1972 – Director of the Institute of Economics.
The political career of Riccardo Lagos Escobar started in 1961. He worked as an assistant to the Chilean Delegate to UNO, Regional Director of the Training Program for postgraduate studies in social sciences, was in charge of the Project of UNESCO in Buenos Aires, represented Chile at the 26th United Nations General Assembly in 1971. In 1976-1983 he served as an economic advisor to the UN Regional Employment Program for Latin America and Caribbean region; in the 1990s - as the Minister of Education and Public Work, in 2000-2006 – the President of Chile.
The Russian Academy of Arts has congratulated Riccardo Lagos Escobar on his 85th anniversary. The Letter of Greetings, in particular, runs:

Your long-term fruitful work in the highest state positions, including the President of Chile, invariably confirms your responsible service for the benefit of the Chilean people. Let your high professionalism, competence in solving the most important issues in various fields help you to cope with tasks of any complexity in the future.
On behalf of the Russian Academy of Arts and on my own behalf I congratulate you on your 85th anniversary. I would like to wish you good health, an inexhaustible reserve of strength, youth of soul, happiness and well-being to you and your family”.
