Dates: November 2 – December 12, 2022
Venue: Novosibirsk State Art Museum (10 Sverdlov street, Novosibirsk, Russia)
The Russian Academy of Arts and Novosibirsk State Art Museum present an exhibition of works by the world renowned monumental artist, People’s Artist of the USSR and Russia, UNESCO Ambassador of Good Will, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli showcasing 60 canvases and six bronze sculptures from the artist’s Townspeople series.
According to the words by the researcher of the artist’s creative work, the Vice-President and Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, PhD in Art History Tatyana Kochemasova: “The past enters into a dialogue with the present, the insignificant details gain importance, the most simple things return to their sacral value. The artwork allows the viewer to determine for himself what corresponds to the structure of the world – fantastic or earthly”.
The combination of opposites, fusion of fantasy, the texture of dreams and visual observations of familiar reality are a stable structure that remains a constant for the art of Tsereteli. His paintings are metaphorical, they invariably speak the language of the parable and as if they are part of a large-scale picture of the world. The topics of his works are usually about everyday life of people. The artist’s works can hardly be attributed to a certain style or direction. Each viewer will always see something of his own.
“The exhibition of this eminent artist is a wonderful and significant event of the new exhibition season in our Museum. It will be an excellent gift to all our viewers, I invite residents and guests of Novosibirsk to come and enjoy the works of the great sculptor and artist” – said the Director of the Novosibirsk State Art Museum Ekaterina Boldyreva.
